HOW WE WORK
Every child is different, so, whilst they are all built on the same results-focused principles, every Speech and Language programme is different too.
We offer programmes to suit every child and to fit in with every family’s life, from resource packs to help you support your child at home, through to in-school support, teletherapy or one to one clinic-based therapy in one of our age-appropriate rooms.
Clinic-based Speech and Language Therapy in Walton-on-Thames
Our friendly private therapy centre is based in Walton-on-Thames, within easy reach of Cobham, Esher, Hersham, Weybridge, Molesey and Byfleet.
By seeing children in-clinic, we can offer the widest range of equipment to support speech and language therapy in a setting which many families tell us helps their children to progress quickly.
We have two therapy rooms, The Meadow, a specialist playroom for younger children, and The Den where we provide speech and language therapy for older children and for parent meetings.
We use our specially commissioned online portal Therapy Plaza to securely share session notes and clinical documents with our clients and their carers.
On-site Speech and Language Therapy in Schools & Nurseries
The education experience of the majority of our Speech and Language Therapists makes us the ideal choice for families who don’t want to take their child out of school, or where after-school appointments are not appropriate.
By delivering Speech and Language Therapy in a child’s educational setting, they are more able to easily carry what they learn over into the classroom or structured play, helping them to use what they learn to support literacy and learning, as well as building all-important social skills.
When we deliver Speech and Language Therapy in a school or nursery setting, a teaching assistant is usually present which helps your child to transfer their learning. It also provides training for the school staff in how to best support your child.
TELETHERAPY
Even before the pandemic, we offered therapy remotely across the UK and internationally via video-calling, but during lockdowns, this means of delivering Speech and Language Therapy has grown in popularity.
This can be ideal for highly anxious children who are more relaxed at home, and of course means that we can support children all over the UK and beyond, not just in Surrey.
Teletherapy is a specialist service. It’s not just face-to-face therapy done in front of a screen: our therapists are highly trained in delivering teletherapy and know how to adapt materials and techniques for online use so that your child gets the maximum benefit.
We use screen-sharing facilities to play interactive and therapeutic games with your child online to develop their learning, communication and social skills.
It is also an ideal way for us to provide coaching to busy parents who want to learn more about how to support Speech and Language Therapy to help their child’s development.
Parent Coaching & Support
We run regular parenting workshops over a period of 7 weeks, with different groups for pre-schoolers; primary age children, children at secondary and young adults. These are appropriate for any parent, irrespective of whether the child has a speech or language difficulty or not.
Topics covered include:
- Building your child’s resilience
- Co-operation without conflict
- Dealing with friendship difficulties
- Talking about the ‘big issues’
- Developing self-esteem and confidence
- Managing stress, anxiety and mood swings.
As well as learning strategies to support your child, you can meet other parents and have the opportunity to share your challenges and hear from parents in a similar position.
Support at Home
For parents who wish to support their children themselves at home, we offer home resource packs ranging from a single week up to a six-week programme of therapy. These include targets, activities and all of the full-colour resources you need to carry out activities at home. We include a short call with one of our therapists to talk you through the pack if you need it.
Group Sessions
We offer group therapy weekly during term time, and communication-focused clubs during school holidays.
Depending on demand, we offer specialist groups to support social communication skills, stammering, selective mutism, speech sounds, developing language, making inferences and predictions, confidence and self-esteem.
Holiday Camps
We also offer clubs during school holidays where children can learn strategies to improve communication and interaction whilst having loads of fun and building their social skills.
